LIFE. What possesses some people! The boxer in my painting above was found tied to a tree with no food and water, dehydrated and on the brink of starvation—yet he had a will to live. Lone Star Boxer Rescue saved the boy and nursed him back to health. Aptly named Sherwood (from Sherwood Forest, I presume), this boy is still at the shelter and amazingly is still trusting of people—that's a boxer for you. They are good dogs. "Sherwood" Boxer is looking for a forever after home or, at the least, a little help paying his food and shelter costs. View "before and after" photos of Sherwood. Perseus, the cute Boxer Pup at Legacy Boxer Rescue, is the inspiration behind this painting. Almost everybody on facebook fell in love with Perseus (Percy) Pup. As I watched the daily photo posting of Perseus, I fell in love with him, too. Soon I could see that wherever Percy's forever home would be, Percy would be in the driver's seat. I used photos from Percy's foster mom for painting reference of the pup, but the composition and steering wheel are my own invention. Since I began this painting, Percy was permanently adopted into his home, and his new growing up name is now Huxley. You can see the progress images of this painting on my facebook page "V. A narrow unpainted border was left around the edges of this painting to allow space for matting.

Today I am thankful for the January rains that brought us out of last year's drought. I am thankful for my grandson's cat who woke me at 3:15 a.m. Because of the cat, I got up to write and then to paint, and here I am to say "Good Morning" to you. An early morning is good quiet time, always my best time. Daily painting was interrupted by a weekend trip, and now I must paint again or feel lost. It's amazing how quick the habit was to take hold of me. There are so many images in my mind that want to be on canvas. I will never find time to paint them all, but I must paint some of them.
